What happens when a girl from the slums dares to dream?

She bags an engineering degree, a master’s degree from Warwick Business School in the UK,  and an executive education from both Harvard Business School and Yale School of Management. She becomes a leader in the telecommunications industry. She mentors other girls and women to do the same.

In Be Fearless: Give Yourself Permission To Be You, Jane Egerton-Idehen draws from her more than 15 years of experience as a telecommunication executive in West Africa to help women build lasting careers, especially in the male-dominated STEM industries.

From rising from the slums of Ajegunle in Lagos, Nigeria, to brokering million-dollar deals for global telecoms giants, hers is a story of hope, of challenging traditional gender roles, and of embracing who you are.

This is a book about women for women, as well as the men who love, nurture, support, and work with them at home and in the office.

About the Author

Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Jane holds an engineering degree and a master’s degree from Warwick Business School in the UK, as well as an executive education from both Harvard Business School and Yale School of Management. Having worked in the telecommunications industry in Nigeria, Ghana, and Liberia for nearly 20 years, her knowledge of technology, her ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships, and her skill to manage teams and create strategies to support growth and drive business are keys to her success.

She is a co-founder of IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) in Nigeria, an international professional organization for promoting women engineers and scientists, and inspiring girls to follow their academic interests in a career in engineering. Recently she was celebrated as one of Nigeria’s “50 Leading Ladies in Corporate Nigeria” by Leading Ladies Africa.

She and her husband, Egerton Idehen, have a son, Asher, and a daughter, Sarah, who inspire Jane to continue to push for diversity in male-dominated fields.

Reviews

  • Jane’s book is a must read for professional women or for those aspiring to have a fulfilling career. Her essays are authentic and deal with real-world personal and professional issues many women face and provide solutions to or ways of thinking about those challenges. This book is also a must read for company leaders to gain insight into the way the culture within their institutions may be preventing them from benefiting from the full talents of the women within their organizations. Finally, it is a must read for partners of professional women, encouraging them to open their eyes and see whether they are enabling or stiffing the aspirations of those they love.
